UNO: Legal Plays, Action Cards and Scoring
Starting from a seven-card hand, see which cards you can play, what Skip, Reverse, Draw Two and wilds do, when Wild Draw Four is legal and how the winner scores.
The goal in UNO is simple: be the first to empty your hand. Everyone starts with 7 cards. On your turn, play one card that matches the active color, number or action, or draw. BluffKing’s UNO seats 2–6 players in friend rooms, with computer players if you want them. It is scored in points only; no chips are used.
What you can play on your turn
- Any card of the active color, or a card matching the last card’s number or action.
- A wild card at any time; you then choose the next color.
- Or draw one card. After drawing, you may play only that card or pass.
Example: the top card is a red 7. Your red 2 and blue 7 are both legal. A green 4 is not, unless you first play a wild and choose green.
Action cards
| Card | Effect |
|---|---|
| Skip | The next player misses a turn |
| Reverse | Play changes direction; with two players it acts as Skip |
| Draw Two | The next player draws two and misses a turn |
| Wild | Changes the active color to your choice |
| Wild Draw Four | Changes color; the next player draws four and misses a turn. Legal only when you hold no card of the active color |
Draw Two and Wild Draw Four do not stack. When you are down to one card, the announcement happens automatically; there is no button to race for.
Scoring
The winner scores the cards left in everyone else’s hands: number cards at face value, action cards 20 points and wild cards 50. Holding a wild until the end has a cost.
Tips for your first game
- Shed high numbers and action cards early; anything left in your hand scores for the winner.
- Wild Draw Four is legal only without a card of the active color, so do not plan around it as a free color change.
- Each turn lasts 40 seconds and the computer acts on timeout. You can reconnect to your room; disconnecting for 90 seconds or leaving withdraws you from the round.
What BluffKing provides
The server validates every move and sends you only your own hand. It shuffles randomly, and membership tier is not an input to dealing. UNO does not currently provide per-game cryptographic verification records; see fairness by game.
